Challenge: American Express Bangalore's office faced a crossroads. The global payments giant yearned for a workplace that not only reflected its timeless values and future vision, but also flexed with the ever-changing business landscape. Two critical challenges emerged: crafting an unforgettable employee experience while designing a resilient space that could weather any storm.
Solution: Our journey began with design thinking, deeply empathizing with the aspirations of Amex's workforce. We aimed to instill pride in the brand, foster inclusivity, and empower employees with choice and autonomy. The "Bluework Approach," Amex's philosophy for wellness and peak performance, became the guiding principle behind Space Matrix’s design strategy.
Five floors in the building transformed into a vibrant vertical micro-campus. Strategic amenities, each floor embodying a unique design attribute ("Hear, Nourish, See, Speak, Sow"), coaxed employees to traverse levels and forge connections across departments. Artworks and social spaces resonated with these themes, creating a tapestry of experiences that nurtured both individual well-being and collaborative spirit.
Modular planning, with the humble workstation as the basic unit, allowed for seamless expansion into clusters, meeting rooms, and scrum spaces, adapting to the business's ever-shifting needs. The "Mother Floor" on the 9th floor, housing critical rooms and common amenities, served as the anchor, while other floors pulsed with the energy of work and interaction.
Impact: Amex Bangalore stands as a beacon of inspiration for workplaces worldwide. It showcases the transformative power of design thinking, the enduring impact of a visionary approach, and our unwavering dedication to shaping exceptional experiences for companies and their people.
